Health Minister acknowledges crisis in the sector, but criticizes staff's lack of ethics

Ministro da Saúde reconhece crise no sector, mas critica falta e ética dos funcionários

The Minister of Health, Ussene Hilário Isse, recognizes the various difficulties in the sector that trigger strikes, but criticizes the lack of ethics on the part of employees when demanding their rights.

According to Isse, claiming rights without ceasing to provide health services to users is a matter of medical principle.

Yesterday, some of the country's health units, including the largest, Maputo Central Hospital, suspended part of their activities to demand better working conditions, logistics for inpatients and the 13th salary.

"I heard about this. The oath of all of us health professionals is that the patient is our priority. Nothing can affect patient care. We took an oath, but someone decides not to go to work. I can claim a right that is not being given to me, but not going to work is unethical in healthcare," he criticized.

The minister assures us that the government is making every effort to pay the 13th salary, as it would have done if the conditions had been right. "But when there aren't, you have to give it a go".

"At the moment there is an effort by the government to resolve this. Let's be patient," he said, recommending that health professionals make their demands without neglecting the patients.
