Millennium bim and Sociedade de Garantia de Moçambique (SGM) signed a Memorandum of Understanding this Thursday, November 12, in Maputo, marking the Bank's official entry into the Mutual Guarantee Fund, an innovative mechanism created to boost access to credit for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs).
The signing took place during the plenary session of the 20th Annual Private Sector Conference (CASP 2025), in the presence of the President of the Republic, Daniel Chapo, reinforcing the joint commitment between the public and private sectors to strengthen the national economy.
The agreement was signed by Rui Pedro, Chairman of Millennium bim's Executive Committee, and Beatriz Freitas, Chairman of SGM's Board of Directors.
Created by the Mozambican government, with financial support from the World Bank, to the tune of around 40 million dollars, the Mutual Guarantee Fund aims to share the credit risk between the state, banks and financial partners, allowing companies with viable projects, but without sufficient guarantees, to obtain financing on more favorable terms.
In its initial phase, this transformative mechanism plans to benefit more than 15,000 MSMEs, many of them led by young people and women entrepreneurs, by creating opportunities to access credit under more favorable and sustainable conditions.
“Millennium bim is committed to supporting the development of the Mozambican business sector. We believe that this Fund will enable many Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises to turn ideas into sustainable businesses, creating jobs and boosting the national economy. For us, supporting Mozambican entrepreneurs is supporting the future of the country,” said Rui Pedro, Chairman of the bank's Executive Committee.
This accession represents another milestone in the Bank's strategy to support MSMEs and economic innovation, in a particularly symbolic year in which it celebrates 30 years of activity in Mozambique, three decades of trust, proximity and commitment to the country's future.
