MDN has no leads on soldiers kidnapped by terrorists more than two weeks ago

MDN sem pistas de militares sequestrados por terroristas há mais de duas semanas

The Ministry of National Defense (MDN) has still not been able to obtain information on the possible whereabouts of two soldiers kidnapped by terrorists more than two weeks ago on National Road 380 (EN380), in the district of Macomia, Cabo Delgado province.

In the meantime, according to the Chief of Public Relations of the Armed Forces General Staff, António Pedro Domingos, efforts are still underway to locate those personnel.

"At the moment, we still don't have precise information on the location of our colleagues. But as we know where the incident took place, every possible effort is being made to find them," he said, quoted by Zumbo FM.

Domingos said that as this is a matter for the Defense and Security Forces, the procedure for now is to avoid sharing information as much as possible in order "not to compromise" the investigations.

The incident took place at around 11.20 a.m. on March 27, 2025. The soldiers, belonging to the Army's 110 Brigade, had been relieved from their position in Namabo and were traveling to the village of Macomia to buy food.

During the journey, the vehicle they were traveling in was intercepted by an armed group on the stretch between the villages of V Congresso and Nova Zambézia. All the occupants were forced to get out of the vehicle and were taken hostage.

According to local information, the kidnappers even demanded money for the release of the soldiers, reports Zumbo FM.

The EN380 remains one of the most dangerous roads in the Northern Operational Theater, frequently targeted by terrorist groups who take advantage of logistical and surveillance failures on certain stretches.
