Maxixe: Moza Banco fights erosion by planting around 2,000 Maxixe saplings

Maxixe: Moza Banco promove combate a erosão com o plantio de cerca de 2 mil mudas Maxixe

More than two hundred Moza Banco employees joined hundreds of other volunteers from various private, academic and governmental organizations to implement the second phase of the "Let's Plant Trees" project, this time in the coastal area of the town of Maxixe, in Inhambane, an area considerably threatened by erosion.

In fact, some access roads in neighborhoods near the sea are already losing the battle against natural disasters, especially in areas with little vegetation.

In all, more than 2,000 casuarinas were planted in a festive atmosphere, but with the proper guidance of environmentalists and the local council, which during the action pointed out the most critical areas for urgent intervention.

According to the Inhambane government's director of the environment, Tiago Mirrione, the city of Maxixe, like the districts of Homoine and Inhassoro, has a critical rating when it comes to the current levels of coastal erosion.

"Precisely because of the criticality of these mapped areas, we believe that initiatives like this (carried out by Moza banco employees) are very welcome and encouraged by the authorities because they help to mitigate these calamitous effects," said Tiago Mirrione.

For the President of Clube Moza, Inácio Fernando, the choice of the Maxixe coastal area was deliberate, not least because the area has been crying out for some intervention for many years.

"We have public infrastructure next door that is under threat from erosion. That public asset I'm talking about is the hospital, which is very important to the local community. So we feel it's necessary to start protecting it now, before the worst happens." Warned the President of the Moza Club.

In the first phase of this project, Clube Moza brought together collaborators, friends and partners to combat the erosion that also affects Xefina Island, in Maputo's Kamavota municipal district.

The group planted more than two hundred trees in the coastal area of Xefina, where the effects of climate change are visibly devastating the local vegetation.

As well as planting trees in Xefina, the volunteers donated clothes and non-perishable food to the 45 residents of the island who live in precarious conditions in that isolated area of Maputo city.

With the "Let's Plant Trees" project, Moza Banco is implementing concrete actions that demonstrate its commitment to social responsibility and environmental preservation. The Bank believes that only by joining forces and working together can a sustainable future for all be made to happen.
