More than 8,000 rhinos have been slaughtered in the Limpopo Transfrontier Park in the last 14 years

Mais de oito mil rinocerontes foram abatidos no Parque Transfronteiriço do Limpopo nos últimos 14 anos

More than 8,000 rhinos were killed by poachers between 2008 and 2022 in the entire Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park region.

According to a statement from the National Administration of Conservation Areas (ANAC), more than 107 rhinos have already been slaughtered this year.

Poaching consists mainly of the indiscriminate killing and trafficking of protected species and their products, such as rhino horn, ivory tips, lion teeth and claws, and even pangolin meat and scales.

The most disturbing fact in this matter is that the various groups of the criminal networks circulate with large caliber firearms, such as Magnum 375, 458, 3006.

The area brings together the Kruger National Park in South Africa, Zimbabwe's Gonarezou, Limpopo, and wilderness farms that are located in Mozambique's territory, also known by the acronym GLC (Great Lebombo Conservancy).

Narrowly, the area stretches from the south bank of the Rio dos Elefantes in Massingir, Gaza province, to Ressano Garcia, Moamba district, Maputo province.
