Mais de 300 pessoas morreram devido à chuvas e ciclones

The president of the National Institute for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (INGD), Luísa Meque, said today that around 326 people had died as a result of climatic events during the last rainy and cyclonic season in the country.

She was speaking at the opening of the IV Consultative Council of that institution, which is taking place until tomorrow in Matola, Maputo province.

The meeting will be held under the slogan "act now, towards a resilient future" and aims to analyze the implementation of INGD policies and strategies and propose actions to improve them.

Luísa Meque also said that the INGD will begin the process of drawing up a new contingency plan in due course, with a view to dealing with the upcoming rainy season.

"Thanks to the collaboration of various entities, it was possible to mitigate the impacts of the disasters recorded, especially droughts, heavy rains, strong winds, atmospheric discharges, cholera and tropical cyclones, which affected 2.427 million people and also left a lot of damage in the country," he said.
