The national flag carrier, Linhas Aéreas de Moçambique (LAM), may reduce travel ticket prices if it implements a Government proposal.
The government has proposed that LAM reduce its fares to attract more passengers and ensure its financial and operational sustainability, according to the Minister of Transport and Communications, Mateus Magala, quoted today by the daily newspaper News.
?the prices currently charged are high? said Magala, noting that ?there are many people who want to use airplanes as a means of transportation to various parts of Mozambique?
The Minister, who visited LAM's facilities, challenged the carrier's managers to adopt price reduction measures within a month.
"Within a month we want to see a new dynamic in the Mozambican market as a result of the restructuring of flight ticket prices," the Minister said.
The Minister intends to know the number of potential Mozambican citizens who want to travel, so he asked the managers for an evaluation study. Magala believes that air travel is no longer a luxury for Mozambicans, and therefore it is urgent that LAM humanize and pluralize access to travel.
