Judith Mussácula takes over leadership of SETSAN with focus on combating malnutrition

Judith Mussácula assume liderança do SETSAN com foco no combate à desnutrição

Judith Mussácula is the new Executive Secretary of the Technical Secretariat for Food and Nutrition Security (SETSAN). She was sworn in last Thursday (17) in Maputo, at a ceremony led by the Prime Minister, Benvinda Levi.

During the event, the head of government highlighted the strategic importance of SETSAN in multisectoral coordination to ensure the right to adequate food, underlining the progress made in the last decade in reducing chronic child malnutrition, which fell from 43% to 37%.

According to a Terra MagazineUnder the new leadership, Judith Mussácula will be responsible for implementing the Food and Nutrition Security Policy and Strategy (PESAN) 2024-2030. The plan emphasizes coordination between state institutions, civil society, academia and cooperation partners to tackle the sector's main challenges.

Among the priorities identified are intensifying nutritional education among producers, community leaders, pregnant and breastfeeding women, as well as boosting local food security coordination bodies.

"We believe that we need to improve our actions in order to continue to reduce the levels of malnutrition and ensure that Mozambique is in line with the standards of the World Health Organization," said Benvinda Levi.

Judith Mussácula succeeds Leonor Mondlane and is committed to consolidating the progress already made, focusing on inclusive and results-oriented leadership, with the aim of improving the country's food and nutrition security indicators.
