Today, October 1st, the nationwide registration of new 1st graders for the 2025 school year begins, with the expectation of enrolling around 1.6 million children who will turn six by June 30th.
The process is expected to last until December 31, said yesterday, the spokesman for the Ministry of Education and Human Development (MINEDH), Manuel Simbine quoted by "Notícias."
The source also said that the provinces of Zambézia, Nampula and Tete have the largest number of vacancies, 446,428; 396,528 and 157,983 respectively.
The country's capital and the provinces of Gaza and Maputo expect to enroll the fewest new students, 18,427; 47,340 and 51,774 respectively.
According to Simbine, registration for this subsystem of education is free. However, he urged parents and/or guardians to go as soon as possible and not leave the process to the last minute.
The source quoted in the newspaper said that during the enrollment process, guardians must have their child's ID card, birth certificate or identity card with them.
For literacy, registration runs from October 2, 2024 to January 22 next year.
