Teachers who campaigned for Renamo in the 2023 local elections in Vilankulo, Inhambane province, are still being persecuted by Frelimo, writes the Center for Democracy and Human Rights (CDD).
According to the CDD, the persecution is being carried out by public institutions, where they (teachers) are transferred to schools located outside the city center without any legal basis for doing so.
The CDD says that the campaign of political persecution started in the Vilankulo District Service for Education, Youth and Technology (SDEJT), and went up to the District Government, which says that teachers must go back to the schools to which they have been transferred, under penalty of suspension of salary payments.
The CDD believes that the transfer of the seven teachers from the city to the countryside should not be seen as a normal administrative act, given the quality of the subjects and the electoral moment the country was and continues to experience.
