MultiChoice's Talent Incubator trains young Africans in filmmaking

Incubadora de Talentos da MultiChoice forma jovens africanos em matérias de cinema

The MultiChoice Talent Incubator (MTF) welcomes 60 new students to the 2023 class of the fully-funded 12-month training program that develops emerging talent in the fields of television and film in Africa.

In this edition of MTF, the academy received thousands of applications from 13 African countries, including Mozambique.

After a rigorous selection process, 60 young aspiring filmmakers were chosen to take part in the training program.

The training includes theoretical and practical aspects of filmmaking, from writing the script to filming, editing and audio post-production.

The young people selected will start the training program on January 23rd of this year. Mozambique will be represented by two (2) youngsters: Genilson Matuca and Dulany Sedemo; who are already at the MTF Academy in Lusaka, Zambia.

The MTF Academies in Zambia, Kenya and Nigeria continue to work with regional and international partners to ensure that students receive the best standard of training and practical experiences needed to hone their skills and make a positive contribution to the film and television industry.

The training program is guided by a large multidisciplinary team of award-winning specialists from all over the continent, some of whom have produced content for the channels of the M-Net Group - an entertainment content production company (children's programs, sports, films, reality shows) that is part of MultiChoice.

The best graduates from each of the three academies will have the incredible opportunity to further develop their skills with various internships sponsored by MTF's partner organizations, such as: the New York Film Academy (NYFA) and Zee World, among others. In these internships, students will be able to gain additional practical experience to further prepare them for various sectors of the entertainment industry.

"We are extremely excited about the class of 2023 and wish them the best of luck on their new journey. Filmmaking is such a wonderful art and because it is constantly evolving, this year our students will be encouraged to explore various emerging technologies that are revolutionizing the industry. I encourage the class of 2023 to be bold and instill curiosity in their quest to tell African stories," said Nwabisa Matyumza, MTF Program Director.

MTF has shown continued success since its inception, honing the skills of more than 120 emerging filmmakers in 13 countries across the continent, who are now part of MTF's growing network of graduates, taking African stories to the world.

The MTF Alumni class of 2022, three months after graduation, saw 60% of its graduates already economically active in the television industry. This is a true testament to the power of the training and development provided by the MTF program.
