(In)conformed, CTA includes Álvaro Massingue on the electoral roll

(In)conformada, CTA inclui Álvaro Massingue no caderno eleitoral

The Confederation of Economic Associations of Mozambique - CTA, through its Electoral Commission, decided yesterday to include the candidacy of the Chamber of Commerce of Mozambique (CMM), represented by Álvaro Massingue, for the presidency of the association.

The CTA's decision is a measure of acquiescence to the Ractificative Judicial Order issued by the 5th Chamber of the KaMpfumo Municipal District Judicial Court, which suspends the effectiveness of the CTA's decision taken on April 17, 2025, regarding the application of disciplinary sanctions to that association (CMM) and its representative.

"As a result of the aforementioned court decision, the Board of Directors ordered the immediate return of the social rights of the CMM and its representative, under the terms of article 09 of the CTA statutes, which is why they were included on the electoral roll," reads CTA Notice no. 4/CE/2025.

In fact, Álvaro Massingue, who is officially on the electoral roll, has as his opponents the previously accepted candidates, namely Maria Assunção Abdula and Lineu Candieiro. The election campaign began on Monday 5th and runs until next Tuesday 13th, the day before the election. A total of 174 members will be able to vote.

It should be remembered that recently, the President of the CTA, Agostinho Vuma, told a press conference that no court in the country had the power to overrule the party's decisions.

In reaction, the Mozambican Association of Judges he warned the possibility of Vuma being taken to court for his statements and for disobeying a court order.
