Government will eliminate customs brokers in the clearance of goods

The figure of the customs broker will be eliminated from the process of clearing products, said the Director of Foreign Trade at the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

Cited by Radio MozambiqueClaire Zimba said that the review of the matter is in its final stages and that the decision will be announced soon.

The official was speaking on Thursday (18) at the session of the Steering Committee of the National Trade Facilitation Committee, and said that the approval of the measure was part of the government's commitment to facilitating trade in the country.

"This is an issue that is still being discussed and the timetable revised. We are thinking in terms of raising awareness through the chamber of customs brokers, which is an integral part of this process, but above all the private sector, which will be able to clear goods without having to use customs brokers," said Claire Zimba.

According to the ministerial representative, this is a structural reform to facilitate trade in order to speed up the clearance of goods and make it more competitive, both nationally and internationally.

The session discussed issues related to the removal of non-tariff barriers.
