Last Thursday (22), the government and the new leadership of the Confederation of Economic Associations of Mozambique (CTA) took a decisive step towards strengthening public-private dialogue by defining strategic lines aimed at boosting economic development and resolving obstacles faced by the business sector.
According to a publication AIMThe meeting, held in Maputo, brought together the Minister of Economy and Finance, Basílio Muhate, and the newly elected governing bodies of the CTA, led by president Álvaro Massingue. The meeting marked the beginning of a new stage of cooperation between the government and the private sector, with a focus on identifying and prioritizing strategic economic sectors such as industry, commerce, services, agriculture and agro-processing.
During the meeting, Minister Basílio Muhate reaffirmed the Executive's commitment to listening and responding to the private sector's concerns, stressing that "continuous dialogue is essential to guarantee a healthier and more productive business environment".
Muhate, who is also the government's focal point for private sector affairs within the framework of the Public-Private Dialogue (PPD), stressed that the Executive is particularly attentive to the issue of the shortage of foreign currency, one of the main concerns of entrepreneurs, and assured that efforts are underway, in coordination with the Bank of Mozambique, to mitigate the problem.
For his part, CTA vice-president Onório Manuel stressed that the meeting "sowed the seeds" for a new approach to solving old and new challenges. "The fact that there's a new direction doesn't mean we've forgotten the old problems. Our mission is to find the best strategy to deal with them," said Manuel, reiterating the CTA's commitment to continue dialoguing with the government on political, monetary and fiscal issues.
The national director for foreign trade at the Ministry of Economy, Claire Zimba, also stressed the importance of continuing the model of cooperation between the Executive and the CTA, praising the stance of the confederation's new president. "The minister praises the model of government-CTA interaction and sees the new board as an opportunity to further strengthen this link," said Zimba.
The new phase of the public-private dialog promises to be more dynamic and strategic, with the expectation that the agreed measures will contribute significantly to improving the business environment in Mozambique and to the sustainable growth of the national economy.
