Government says exploitation of natural resources must be sustainable

Governo diz que a exploração dos recursos naturais deve ser sustentável

Maputo City is hosting, today and tomorrow, the First Summit on Energy and Industry in Mozambique, which brings together various players in this sector, both national and international.

In the meeting's inaugural act, the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy (MIREME), Teodoro Vales, highlighted the importance of holding the event, since Mozambique has enormous potential, including hydrocarbons.

"We are aware that the exploitation of this potential must be in a sustainable, transparent and inclusive way so that its benefits contribute to the country's development," said Teodoro Vales, quoted by Domingo newspaper.

He also affirmed that it is intended that these energy potentialities be used as a driving force for national industrialization. "We are aware that in order to achieve this goal, the participation of the national private sector in the value chain is necessary."

Vales recalled that the Mozambican government has chosen energy, along with the agriculture, infrastructure, and tourism sectors as priority areas for development.
