Last Thursday (24), a group of terrorists invaded a coutada in the Niassa Special Reserve, in northern Mozambique, and took several workers hostage. The information was confirmed by the local authorities and the Minister of Defense.
Initially treated as a rumor, the attack was officially confirmed by the Secretary of State for Niassa province, Silva Livone. According to him, in recent days, armed groups have approached the reserve from the direction of Cabo Delgado, more precisely from the district of Montepuez.
"In the last few days, we have seen a group of individuals, supposedly terrorists, approach the Niassa Special Reserve from the Montepuez district in Cabo Delgado. This group invaded the camp of a sport hunting company, a legal activity, set fire to the facilities and took some of the employees hostage," explained the Secretary of State, Silva Livone.
According to a RFIDespite the seriousness of the situation, no deaths have been reported. The Minister of Defense, Cristóvão Chume, guaranteed that the pursuit is underway and promised to present results in the next few days. "They're terrorists, and we're after them. We're on the ground," said the minister.
Meanwhile, the Mozambican government authorities in Niassa province are calling on the population to remain calm, to be more vigilant and to report the movement of strangers in their communities.
