On Friday, August 22, the government announced the repatriation of 16 Mozambican victims of human trafficking who have been detained for months in the Lao People's Democratic Republic, starting on the 28th of this month.
The government spokesman, Inocêncio Impissa, said that the 16 Mozambicans would be welcomed in Maputo by the Mozambican authorities and then taken back to their places of origin.
In total, there are 23 Mozambican victims of human trafficking in Laos, but seven of them are still in an unknown location, supposedly still on the Asian continent.
Speaking after the government's weekly meeting, the Minister for State Administration and the Civil Service called for people not to take up invitations to work abroad without complying with the rules on labor contracts and migration.
