On its first anniversary, the European Union Military Assistance Mission in Mozambique (EUMAM MOZ), in collaboration with the Mozambican Armed Forces, implemented 16 training programs involving more than 500 Mozambican military personnel.
According to a press release, these activities included programs in areas such as Command and Control, Logistics, Training of Trainers for the instructors of the Rapid Reaction Forces, Resupply and Transport, Leadership, Military Pedagogy, Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC), Strategic Communication and Institutional Advice to the General Staff.
At the same time, essential programs were launched to ensure the logistical sustainability of the resources made available under the European Peace Facility (EPF).
The Commander of the EUMAM MOZ Force, Brigadier General Luís Barroso, thanks all the elements of the Mission and the participating countries for their contribution, and also highlights the importance of the work carried out in conjunction with the Mozambican Armed Forces, which has already enabled half a thousand Mozambican soldiers to be trained.
For his part, the Chief of Staff of Mozambique, General Júlio dos Santos Jane, in his message dedicated to the first anniversary of EUMAM MOZ, wished that "this anniversary will be a reminder of the positive impact you have on Mozambique and the world, as well as a motivation to continue serving with the same enthusiasm and drive".
Ambassador Antonino Maggiore, Head of the European Union Delegation to Mozambique, stressed that EUMAM MOZ strengthens the security partnership between the European Union and Mozambique, which is a central pillar of cooperation.
EUMAM MOZ is a non-executive mission that aims to assist the Armed Defense Forces of Mozambique to develop capabilities to ensure that they implement and sustain the operational employment cycle of the Rapid Reaction Forces, with respect for Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law. EUMAM MOZ's mandate runs until June 2026.
The European Union Mission in Mozambique is currently commanded by Portuguese Brigadier General Luís Barroso and has 83 soldiers of 11 nationalities.
