Nurse denounces doctors' arrogance: "They look at us like employees"

Enfermeiro denuncia soberba dos médicos: “olham para nós como empregados”

Nurses denounced to the Minister of Health the poor ethical and deontological attitude of doctors towards that class of professionals today in Maputo.

"We're stepped on, humiliated, and what's more, the doctors look at us as employees. This hurts us a lot. I, who am new to nursing, feel like giving up, unfortunately," said one nurse.

The health workers also demanded career progression.

"Minister, we are asking to go to school and not to be discounted. We deserve it. While we go to school, we need this money to feed ourselves at home," said another nurse

Ussene Isse said that the concerns are already being addressed by the Executive.

On the other hand, the health minister urged nurses to strive for humanized care in health units.

"Attending to the Mozambican population with love, affection, sympathy, respect, humility, knowing how to listen to the patient, letting the patient put their problem. Sometimes the patient gets there and is fiddling with the phone. He's listening to music," he condemned.

But he also called for vigilance to stop the theft of drugs from hospitals.

"I also ask for your help in controlling the theft of medicines. A lot of medicine is stolen in hospitals. When we look at what the state buys, there's enough medicine for everyone, there's even a surplus. But when the medicine arrives at the hospital, in less than 15 days it's all gone," he appealed.

For Isse, the adoption of these measures will restore users' confidence in national health services. (Source: RM)
