Mozambican singer Elvira Viegas is performing a concert this Friday night at the Mozambique-China Cultural Center to mark the 50th anniversary of her career.
Elvira Viegas is preparing a special show that aims to revisit the main chapters of her artistic career, bringing to the public songs full of memories, emotion and social criticism.
According to a press release, the celebration will also pay tribute to the artists who, over the years, shared the stage and life with the singer, especially Tia Ivone Viegas, and, posthumously, to her brother Pacha Viegas, whose compositions remain an essential legacy of national music.
The concert will feature a sequence of songs and performances that reflect the richness of the artist's work and her strategic partnerships. Among the most anticipated moments will be a performance by the Xiquitsi orchestra, Alvin Cossa, as well as compositions that have marked Elvira's career, such as "Coração de Pedra", "Xihlovo xa utomi", "Nwamatibwana II", "Kupepa", "Tiva Tako", "Lirere", among others.
The evening also holds special tributes: Ivone Viegas will perform "A hitwananeni hi kweru" and "Loku hi nga londrovoti", messages calling for solidarity and education. The memory of Pacha Viegas will be celebrated with the song "Psihono Psaku", recalling the importance of fair judgment and empathy.
Between poetry and music, the show will also bring moments of reflection through the poems "Mesmo de rasto eu quero que me escutem!" by José Craveirinha and "Ora chegou!" by Jorge Rebelo (a former combatant), merging literature and music on the same stage.
Over the course of 24 moments, Elvira Viegas will take the audience on an artistic journey that is also a trip through Mozambique's recent history, touching on themes such as peace, childhood, solidarity, social struggle and hope.
More than a concert, this will be a historic milestone in Mozambican music, celebrating not only the career of one of the country's greatest voices, but also the collective memory of generations who find in art a reflection of their own journey.
