"We must fight terrorism without truce or contemplation," Nyusi

“É preciso combater o terrorismo sem tréguas nem contemplações”, Nyusi

The President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, urged this morning in Maputo, the Defense and Security Forces to fight terrorism with ferocity, because in them the Mozambicans have confidence to eradicate evil.

"Mozambique is today the target of terrorist attacks, however, Mozambicans have the utmost confidence in the Armed Forces of Defense of Mozambique to provide the appropriate response to all types of threats to the homeland. Terrorists attack populations, loot their property, and destroy socio-economic infrastructures. It is necessary to vigorously fight terrorism, because in the fight against terrorism there can be no truces or contemplations," he said.

As Commander-in-Chief of the Defense and Security Forces, Filipe Nyusi was addressing the highest ranks of the various specialties of the Armed Forces and Defense of Mozambique (FADM) on the occasion of the celebration of the 58th anniversary of the beginning of the Armed Struggle for National Liberation and FADM Day, which falls on September 25.

The Commander-in-Chief praised the bravery of the national forces, which, in partnership with the joint force in the region (SAMIM), are able to dislodge the terrorists from their besieged areas and make them act in small groups.

"We urge structured effort and commitment, involving all means at your disposal, to put the enemy on the defensive for the final assault," he said, stressing that despite support from other countries in the northern operational theater, "we must be aware that it is in the Mozambican Defense and Security Force that the primary responsibility for defending the homeland must reside."

"The support of the Rwandan forces, the SADC forces and the local force, as well as the support that other partners have been providing, are necessary and make a big difference. However, the definitive solution to the evils that beset us must come from the selfless commitment of the Mozambican Defense and Security Forces, in a group where the Armed Forces of Defense of Mozambique play a primordial role," he said.

The Commander-in-Chief also said that the Mozambican military must continue with their constant training for the defense of sovereignty and territorial integrity "because our partners will not be with us permanently.

"When the friends fighting alongside us retire our partners should be proud to realize that the support provided has resulted in the sustainable capacity building of our Defense and Security Forces, which will enable us to fight terrorism effectively and bravely."
