Seven citizens, including two PRM officers, have been arrested on charges of kidnapping and murdering an Indian national in the Chókwè district of Gaza province.

The kidnapping took place on March 3 in the town of Chókwè, and the victim's death was discovered a few days later at the administrative post of Chivonguene, in the district of Guijá.

It is suspected that the murder was carried out due to the refusal of the victim's relatives to pay a ransom of two million meticais, according to "Noticias".

SERNIC reports that the suspects confessed to the crime during the preparatory investigation, but did not admit it to the press.

The spokesman for the National Criminal Investigation Service in Gaza (SERNIC), Zaqueu Mucambe, says, as quoted in the publication, that there is evidence that the individuals in question were involved in committing the crimes.

SERNIC also said that, during the investigation, it was possible to identify the residence that was used as captivity, the place where the body of the deceased would have been deposited, as well as the recovery of two firearms.

"The neutralization of these individuals was thanks to an operative combination between SERNIC and other institutions that resulted in the identification of one of those involved and through him the identification of the others.

The first four detainees are already in pre-trial detention with their situation legalized at the Xai-Xai Provincial Penitentiary," he said.

Regarding the involvement of two police officers, Mucambe said that steps were still being taken to ascertain the veracity of the facts.
