Last Friday (23), the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) arrested a 35-year-old woman in the Mahlazine neighborhood, on the outskirts of Maputo, on suspicion of organ trafficking, following a complaint made by the partner of her domestic worker.
According to a publication by Carta de Moçambique, the arrest took place after the maid found human organs (arms and breasts) in the freezer at her employer's house, which led her to inform her partner, who then reported the case to the police.
In the same publication, the spokesperson for the PRM in Maputo city, Marta Pereira, explained that the citizen was arrested for having human body parts in her home, which were discovered by her maid, after her boss called asking her to take meat out of the freezer to prepare.
"When she was looking for the meat, she came across a piece of plastic containing women's arms and breasts, which made her run away until she fainted. Shortly afterwards, the employer's daughter called her mother to tell her what had happened and the latter returned to the house, confronting the maid about what she had seen in the freezer," says the publication, adding that in a panic, the maid asked her employer to send her back to Gaza province, where she lives, but the employer refused.
Meanwhile, the detainee claims that she is being accused of a crime she didn't commit, claiming that nothing was found in her home. "When the police searched my house and my room, they only found four syringes and my dog's collar. In my car, they found a first aid kit and medicinal herbs that I use for my baths. On my cell phone, they found some messages from a young man who finds me people to work with, but they didn't find anything in my freezer," she explained.
