A total of 17 courts in four provinces were damaged or destroyed during the post-election demonstrations, revealed the President of the Supreme Court, Adelino Muchanga.
"Unfortunately, we will have to divert resources that should have been used for other work and investments to rebuild and rehabilitate the buildings that have been destroyed or damaged, and to purchase furniture and other equipment," he said.
He said that all the files destroyed during the riots will have to be reconstructed.
On the other hand, Muchanga said that 196,173 cases were concluded in 2021, rising to 207,511 in 2022 and to 232,179 in 2023.
He was speaking as part of the inauguration of a High Court of Appeals in Nampula by the President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi.
