The President of the Republic, Daniel Chapo, called on Tuesday for a swift and dignified humanitarian response to the displaced victims of terrorism in Cabo Delgado.
According to Daniel Chapo, who was speaking in Maputo after reappointing Luísa Meque and Gabriel Monteiro as president and vice-president of the National Institute for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (INGD) respectively, in addition to mere emergency assistance, the institution must prepare resettlement plans in order to restore dignity, hope and the future of the population affected by the armed conflict.
"Your mandate is to guarantee a dignified, swift and transparent humanitarian response. Every family, every displaced child deserves our attention and support. We cannot accept the inefficiencies that have sometimes marred the delivery of humanitarian aid in our country," said Chapo.
On the same occasion, the Head of State pointed out that in addition to requesting support for the displaced in Cabo Delgado, the INGD must respond to climatic events in good time.
"This requires continued investment in protection infrastructures, functioning early warning systems, as well as territorial planning that takes into account the climate risks resulting from climate change," he said.
Nevertheless, the Mozambican statesman also called for greater transparency in the management of INGD funds.
