CPLP apoio às prioridades de Moçambique na presidência do Conselho de Segurança ONU

Members of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries, CPLP, express their full support for Mozambique's priorities in the presidency of the United Nations Security Council, which took office on March 1st.

The CPLP believes that the issues of women, peace, security, combating terrorism and extremism and climate change, listed by Mozambique as priorities in this monthly mandate at the head of the UN Security Council, are in line with current global priorities.

Mozambique's ambassador to the United Nations and the country's representative on the Security Council, Pedro Comissário, presented the CPLP with the work program for the Mozambican mandate until March 31.

The member states of the CPLP, says Pedro Comissário, have unanimously approved the program and have even expressed their intention to present a joint declaration to the UN Security Council to this effect.

"There have been proposals for the CPLP to make a joint statement at the big event taking place this Tuesday, which will be chaired by the Mozambican Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation," he said.

Pedro was speaking to the Mozambican press in New York on the eve of Mozambique's open debate on Women, Peace and Security, marking the first major high-level event as part of our country's presidency of the UN Security Council.

This Monday, the UN Security Council, led by Mozambican ambassador Pedro Comissário, is debating the security situation in South Sudan and the use of chemical weapons in Syria. (RM)
