Frelimo yesterday paid tribute to the local force made up of Combatants of the National Liberation Struggle who voluntarily joined the Armed Defense Forces of Mozambique to fight terrorism in some districts of Cabo Delgado province.

According to a press release, the tribute was paid by the Secretary General of Frelimo, Roque Silva, for whom the fact that the local force is made up of militants from the Front for the Liberation of Mozambique (FRELIMO) who fought for National Independence, it would not be fair for Frelimo, as a party, to remain indifferent to this example of patriotism and citizenship given by these sons of the Mozambican homeland.

Roque Silva also said that this was how they decided to schedule the event to publicly convey a message of greeting and encouragement to this force as a tribute, announcing the logistical support they so desperately need for the success of the mission they have decided to once again embrace on the battlefield.

He encouraged Mozambican society and in particular young people to follow the example of a high sense of patriotism and citizenship set by the members of the local force in this and other spheres of life and the country's development.

On the occasion, Frelimo's SG handed Local Force Commander John Issa a check for two million meticais (2,000,000.00 mt), the result of the contribution made by members of the Central Committee at the III Ordinary Session held on April 5 and 6, and more than 50 tons of various products (corn flour, beans, sugar, cooking oil, salt and soap).

For his part, Local Force Commander John Issa, on behalf of the members of the force he heads, thanked them for their support, reiterating their commitment to do everything they can to restore peace and tranquillity in Cabo Delgado with the total eradication of terrorism.

The member of the Political Commission and Army General Alberto Chipande, who attended the event, congratulated the Party leadership on this gesture of great significance and congratulated the local forces on the excellent work they are doing, which he said makes the whole generation proud.
