The National Electoral Commission (CNE) is urging the entire eligible population to take part in the voter registration process, which kicks off tomorrow, Friday (15), throughout the country.
According to the president of the CNE, Dom Carlos Matsinhe, the ballot is the only way for every citizen to exercise their right to vote and be elected in the sixth general-presidential and legislative elections scheduled for October 9.
Voter registration covers all Mozambican citizens aged 18 or over, as well as those who turn 18 on the day of the vote.
"We call on everyone to participate in the voter registration process with enthusiasm, with a view to taking part in the voting process on October 9, 2024," said the president of the CNE, Dom Carlos Matsinhe, who was speaking at the ceremony to launch the exercise.
Voter registration will take place over a period of 45 days. For districts without local authorities, it will be a fresh registration, while for districts with local authorities it will be an updating process.
"Therefore, we renew our deep appeal to all Mozambican citizens who have not registered in 2023 or who have lost their cards, to change their residence and to come en masse to the voter registration offices," said Matsinhe, quoted by the AIM.
Voter registration will take place from March 15 to April 28 throughout Portugal and from March 30 to April 28 abroad, and the CNE expects to register almost 16.5 million voters.
