Clarification about entry and exit of foreigners under 18 years old in Mozambique

Clarificação sobre entrada e saída de estrangeiros menores de 18 anos em Moçambique

Mozambique has recently set a New Legal Regime of the Foreign Citizenwhich establishes the rules for their Entry, Stay and Exit from the Country. The measure adopted comprehensive rules for minors under 18 years of age.

According to Ágata Chiconela, Chief Legal Counsel at RSM, who advanced the information, this is a measure by the legislature based on a ?normalized? practice outside the law.

In fact, it was decided to legalize what was already happening, that is, there is now legal coverage for what people were already doing," Chiconela explained, pointing out that "it was a legal loophole" in that legal system.

Thus, for minors under 18, if not accompanied by their parents, it is necessary to present at the time of entry and/or exit a written authorization from the parents or whoever exercises parental power, in Portuguese or translated, with notarized recognition by the competent authorities.

But when accompanied by one of the parents ?it is necessary to present at the time of entry and/or exit a written authorization from the other parent, expressing his/her consent in relation to the minor's trip, in Portuguese or translated, with notarized recognition by the competent authorities.
