The President of the Republic, Daniel Chapo, yesterday expressed the possibility of replicating in other parts of Mozambique the model of surveillance site adopted in the district of Mueda, in the province of Cabo Delgado, to combat terrorism.
The Head of State was impressed by the local strategy and vigilance in identifying the terrorists, which is the real commitment of the population to the stability of the area.
"In Mueda we saw the local force. It's very motivated to defend the population against terrorism and terrorists. They are very clear about identifying the enemy, terrorism and terrorists. What impressed us was the level of popular vigilance in Mueda. We think it's an experience that can be transported throughout the country. We're going to start working towards this level of vigilance that we saw in Cabo Delgado, especially the issue of identifying the enemy very clearly," he said.
Daniel Chapo was speaking to journalists as part of a three-day visit to Cabo Delgado, and on that occasion he condemned the way the demonstrations against the election results were taking place.
"Thinking differently is very good... but it can't lead to violence, especially when it culminates in the destruction of public and private property. What worries me most is seeing people who destroy property and then start complaining about it, forgetting that they destroyed it," he said, quoted by Radio Mozambique.
