Two individuals are being held accountable by the authorities for being the managers of the social network page called "Unay Cambuma". They were arrested and presented to the press on January 31, 2025 by the National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC).
As the weekly reports Mozambique ChannelAccording to the newspaper, one of the defendants, W.M. Pita, 26, was arrested on the afternoon of January 23. The newspaper reports that, on the way and at SERNIC, the young man "was brutally beaten in hidden parts of his body, mainly in the bladder area". The beatings made it difficult for him to satisfy his major and minor needs.
On the 24th, he was transferred to the Operational Brigade. Due to the seriousness of the attacks, on the 25th he was taken to Maputo Central Hospital. The same source says that at SERNIC, Pita was tortured and suffered serious injuries from the use of staplers on his genitals, which required surgery. On the 25th, he was taken to the B.O. Health Post, where he remained until the day he was presented to the press.
The weekly newspaper reports that the Criminal Investigation Judge in the 8th Section of the Maputo City Judicial Court agreed to the requests of the defendants' defense, who, at the criminal investigation hearing on September 26, asked for W.M. Pita's medical report "because he underwent minor surgery"; the investigation of the issue of torture; detentions without an arrest warrant; delay in taking the accused to the first interrogation; and re-examination of the pre-trial detention.
In fact, the preliminary hearing has been postponed until this Friday, October 3rd.
The newspaper, quoting the defendants' defense, says that at the time of the arrest, the investigating judge refused a request for release on an Identity and Residence Certificate.
Pita and A.D. Mutemba are accused of public incitement, threatening violence, attempting to destroy, alter or subvert the rule of law and incitement to collective disobedience.
