Intense heat kills close to 17,000 chickens in Maputo and Matola cities

Calor intenso mata perto de 17 mil frangos nas cidades de Maputo e Matola

Nearly 17,000 chickens have been lost as a result of the intense heat that has been felt in the south of the country for a few days, particularly in the city and province of Maputo..

The situation affects many chicken farmers in the neighborhoods of Albasine, Magoanine, Machava and Matola, among others, who have suffered losses as a result of the weather phenomenon.

The information was given to "Notícias" yesterday by the secretary of the Poultry Farmers' Association, Henriqueta Damas, who pointed out that the lack of slaughterhouses for cutting and slaughtering poultry in the two areas means that farmers have no alternative or way out of situations like this.

The lack of chicken cutting units in the city and province of Maputo means that all poultry farmers look to the wholesale markets, especially Zimpeto, as a place to sell their produce.
