Intense heat kills close to 17,000 chickens in Maputo and Matola cities

Calor intenso mata perto de 17 mil frangos nas cidades de Maputo e Matola

Nearly 17 thousand chickens are reported lost as a result of the intense heat that for some days has been felt in the southern region of the country, with particular incidence in the city and province of Maputo.

The situation affects many chicken farmers in the neighborhoods of Albasine, Magoanine, Machava, Matola, among others, who are adding losses caused by the weather phenomenon.

The information was provided yesterday to ?Notícias? by the secretary of the Association of Poultry Farmers, Henriqueta Damas, pointing out that the lack of slaughterhouses for cutting and slaughtering birds in the two points means that farmers have no alternative or way out in situations like this.

The lack of chicken cutting units in the city and province of Maputo leads all poultry farmers to look to wholesale markets, especially Zimpeto, as a place to market their production.
