Cabo Delgado: Venâncio Mondlane promete legalizar mineração artesanal

Venâncio Mondlane, the presidential candidate backed by the Podemos party, promises to legalize artisanal mining and create more job opportunities for young people in Montepuez, in Cabo Delgado province.

"Our proposal is to legalize what they call illegal prospectors. The people who were born on this land, they say are criminals and illegal, but those who aren't from the land come here without a license, exploit the mineral resources and leave nothing behind. They take everything abroad," said Venâncio Mondlane, quoted by "O País."

Mondlane was speaking this Sunday at a rally in Montepuez, Cabo Delgado province.

The presidential candidate denounced alleged schemes aimed at stealing votes and gave assurances that they will be stopped at all costs.

"They were used to doing these mafias all this time and, in the end, they talked to my old boss to get envelopes under the table.

If you think they're going to use lies, fraud, manipulation and steal the will of the people again, it's good to know that this time it's going to be different, because young people have already told me that they're willing to lose their lives to defend this country," said the presidential candidate.

He also said that such fraud will be fought in honor of Afonso Dhlakama, the former president of the Renamo party, a political movement he recently abandoned.

"I wanted to say here before you that 2024 is the year for us to honor the man who spent 40 years fighting for this people and who died in the mountains like a bastard to defend the people. This year, we will not accept any mob in memory, in honor of Afonso Dhlakama," he concluded.

In his interaction with voters, Mondlane also showed the public how to vote and appealed for everyone to go to the polls.
