Five women from the village of Chinda, located about 50 kilometers from the district of Mocímboa da Praia, in Cabo Delgado, were kidnapped last Saturday by alleged terrorists and, surprisingly, released afterwards.
According to a Zumbo FM NewsAccording to a report by Sérgio Cipriano, the administrator of Mocímboa da Praia, the women were working in the fields when they were captured.
"The terrorists demanded food and asked if they would be welcomed back if they returned. They assured them that if they gave up their weapons, they would be treated with respect," said Sérgio Cipriano, pointing out that "after receiving donations of potatoes, cassava and tomatoes, the women were released and returned to Chinda."
Sérgio Cipriano revealed that there are reports of the insurgents becoming increasingly hungry. "We are making an urgent appeal for these groups to hand themselves in to the community authorities and return their weapons, if there are any repentant ones," concluded Cipriano.
Mocímboa da Praia is the district with the greatest circulation of terrorists, especially at the Mbaua administrative post.
