Cabo Delgado: Ataques terroristas forçaram deslocamento de quase 60 mil pessoas

The recent terrorist attacks in some districts of Cabo Delgado province have led to the displacement of nearly 60,000 people, according to the International Organization for Migration's recent report on the war in the province.

O document says that 57,034 people from 13,343 families fled the districts of Muidumbe, Ancuabe and Chiúre after incursions by non-state armed groups between July 20 and August 3, 2025.

The recent spikes in displacement are mainly attributed to new conflicts in Nantova, Micolene, Ntohane and Chiúre-Velho (Chiúre district), as well as in Nanduli (Ancuabe district).

This figure includes 2,310 individuals (486 families) who fled the villages of Magaia and Chitunda between July 23 and 28; 2,765 individuals (554 families) who fled the village of Nanduli in Ancuabe district and Micolene in Chiúre-Velho between July 23 and August 3, 2025 and 51.959 individuals (12,303 families) who fled Nantavo in Chiúre-Velho (including neighboring villages) in Chiúre district between July 24 and August 3, 2025, the report notes.

The demographic profile of the displaced indicates, according to the document, that 32,950 (58%) are children, 12,790 (22%) are women, and 11,294 (20%) are men.

In this group of people, 1,077 elderly people were identified; 490 pregnant women or pregnant women; 191 people with disabilities; and 126 children without "unaccompanied" relatives.
