Commodities Exchange wants to intermediate sales of precious stones

Bolsa de Mercadorias quer intermediar venda de pedras preciosas

The trading of precious stones such as rubies, gold and emeralds, as well as carbon credits, could be intermediated by the Mozambique Commodities Exchange (BMM).

The institution is currently holding auctions of agricultural products, as well as brokering the sale of products according to their availability.

The Chairman of the Board of Directors (PCA), Vitória Paulo, reveals that BMM's futuristic vision is to enter the minerals sector, having already presented to the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy (MIREME) the operating mechanism for the electronic platform, the Commodity Information and Trading System (SINEM), says the newspaper Sunday newspaper.

The device is seen as an alternative for organizing the sector in general, with a greater impact on artisanal miners who, in order to market their products, will have to set up cooperatives and have access to a greater number of international clients.

The position advocated by BMM should allow the state to collect more revenue and eliminate the practice of selling minerals at random prices set by the buyers.
