Beira: Public lighting on EN6 restored after vandalization

Beira: Reposta iluminação pública na EN6 após vandalização

The vandalized electricity cables along National Road Number Six (EN6) in Beira, which affected public lighting and therefore road safety, have already begun to be replaced.

REVIMO, the concessionaire for National Road Number Six, began replacing the vandalized material a few days ago. The replacement will cost REVIMO around six million meticais, according to the newspaper "O País".

Of this amount, half will be used to buy cables to replace the street lighting and the other half for other equipment and labor.

This is the second time in six years that vandalism of this nature has occurred along the EN6, in the city of Beira, between the city center and the ceramics district, a stretch of around 20 kilometers.

It should be noted that in February of this year, the police arrested one of the alleged perpetrators of the vandalization. More than two thousand meters of copper electrical cables were found and seized from his possession. The process is underway to bring the perpetrators and their accomplices to justice.
