BCI and Girl MOVE together for education and an impactful partnership

BCI e Girl MOVE juntos pela educação e por uma parceria com impacto

As part of the partnership that has been active since 2019 between Girl MOVE Academy and Banco Comercial e de Investimentos (BCI), BCI paid an institutional visit to the Academy a few days ago, which was attended by BCI's Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Francisco Costa, and BCI's Director, Luís Aguiar.

The purpose of the visit was to strengthen existing ties, as well as to directly monitor the concrete results of the impact generated by Girl MOVE Academy on Mozambican communities.

The BCI representatives had the opportunity to interact with the Girl Movers from Class 10. These are young leaders in training who, through innovative methodologies and proximity actions, have catalyzed processes of social insertion in various community contexts.

The talk focused on investment that adds value in education, with an emphasis on Impact Circles, where Girl Movers take on the role of role models. Through intergenerational mentoring, these young women awaken skills and critical awareness in the Mwarusis (6th grade girls), promoting the value of education and staying in school.

On the occasion, the President of the Executive Committee of the BCI, Francisco Costa, underlined the relevance of the initiative, stating that "more than knowing Girl MOVE as an Academy that trains impact leaders, the BCI today has the honor of having a Girl Mover as a collaborator.

It's clear that all the young women who go through this program leave a mark wherever they go. To the Girl Movers, I leave an appeal: create value in everything you do, because it is this value that generates lasting impact."

In an atmosphere of testimonies and sharing, Laliana Mahumane said: "We have around 1,300 Mwarusis actively participating in 37 impact circles, with the support of 74 mobilized facilitators. We promote essential skills and a safe space for their personal and educational development.

There are currently 11 Safe Spaces in operation, spread across communities in the city of Nampula, where I have the pleasure of being part of one of them, Murrapaniua.

It's important to stress that, for us, the Mwarusis don't just represent numbers: they represent several possible futures through education. We believe in the impact that Girl Movers have on the Mwarusis.

It's invaluable to have someone who inspires them to cultivate their dreams. And it is in this spirit that we Girl Movers, together with the facilitators, are role models."

In the same vein, Jasmin Pita added: "I realized the real impact of my experience as a Mwarusi sister the day I went to the airport to return home.

My Mwarusi's mother came up to me to thank me with a deep hug, because today Agnélia (her daughter) is a 'more complete' girl: she already wants to study every day, she already has limits when it comes to playing, she already knows how to look after her siblings and always hug them, she already knows that she has to have at least two baths a day and she even gathers the little children in the area in a circle and says she's a 'Girl Mover like her sis'.

Hearing this testimony warmed my heart. I realized that every session I gave was listened to and absorbed by Agnélia, but also by my other little butterflies. It means that I have planted big dreams in each of their hearts and the certainty that they will get there."

The visit was a gesture of recognition and strategic continuity, especially considering that six of the thirty-seven GIRLS MOVERS from the 10th edition, as part of their Exchange Lab, will be carrying out international internships in Portugal, between September 1 and October 28, with Caixa Geral de Depósitos and the BPI Group, Portuguese banking institutions that are both shareholders of BCI
