Balama: after ten years of "refusal" the mining company restarts the process of compensating peasants

Balama: após dez anos de “recusa” mineradora reinicia o processo de compensação dos camponeses

After a decade of exploiting Balama's graphite without compensating the "owners" of the land, TWWIG Exploration and Mining Limitada has begun to compensate the peasants, who have been demanding compensation for the land occupied by the project.

According to "O País", the process of compensating peasants affected by graffiti mining has been officially opened by the district administrator.

According to company sources, the process should end on June 30 and is valued at around one million five hundred thousand US dollars.

The peasants' claim began in 2014, shortly after the compensation of the first group affected by the Balama graphite mining project was completed.

As well as being compensated by peasants, TWWIG Exploration and Mining has a conflict with some workers, who were allegedly expelled from the company without proper compensation simply because they went on strike to demand a pay rise and an end to discrimination.
