The absence of the independent presidential candidate, Venâncio Mondlane, from the meeting between the President of the Republic and the presidential candidates, was consensual among his support base.
According to the President of the Optimist Party for the Development of Mozambique (PODEMOS), Albino Forquilha, it was to understand Filipe Nyusi's next move.
"Venâncio didn't take part that day and no one was supposed to represent him. This was really by consensus, because we wanted to hear what step the President of the Republic would take after he [Venâncio Mondlane] didn't take part," he said.
In the meantime, Forquilha pointed out other constraints that would and do prevent Venâncio Mondlane from coming to the country.
"He can't come to participate while there are several criminal cases against him. We first asked for these conditions for him to take part. There are lawsuits against the candidate. There are cases against the party we can. We want these prosecutions to be annulled so that we can actually sit down at the table and discuss in Venâncio's presence," he said during a press conference in Maputo today.
