Pope Leo XIV showed "great concern" about the attacks between Israel and Iran on Saturday (14) and called on the international community to work to build paths of reconciliation.
Quoted by the international press, the pontiff also asked Iranians and Israelis for "responsibility" towards their own people and the world, and for "reason" not to give in to what he called "blind rage".
"No one should ever threaten the existence of another. It is the duty of all countries to support the cause of peace, opening paths of reconciliation and promoting solutions that guarantee security and dignity for all," said the pontiff.
He was speaking in St. Peter's Square in Rome after holding his first Jubilee Audience since taking over the leadership of the Catholic Church on May 8.
