ANAMOLA wants AR to have the power to "impeach" PR

ANAMOLA quer AR com poder de “impeachment” do PR

The National Alliance for a Free and Autonomous Mozambique (ANAMOLA) party will propose to the Technical Commission for National and Inclusive Dialogue (COTE) that the Assembly of the Republic (AR) be given the power to impeach the President of the Republic.

The information was given today in Maputo by the political group's interim spokesman, Dinis Tivane, at a press conference.

"We need to have powers and counter-powers. We are saying that the Assembly of the Republic will now have the power of impeachment. If the President of the Republic can dissolve parliament, that same parliament can also impeach him," he said, stressing that this measure could be applied in circumstances where there are unpatriotic attitudes on the part of the President of the Republic.

According to Tivane, this is the time to dilute as much as possible "the abuses and excesses that the Head of State has at this time".

"We're going to file this with COTE, and if its rejection hasn't been substantiated, the Mozambican people have to pursue their rights," he said.

He was speaking at the presentation of the essential points that ANAMOLA is going to propose to COTE for the revision of the Constitution of the Republic of Mozambique, wanting the Mozambican political system to be parliamentary, where: the President of the Republic would be directly elected, as well as some deputies; the Prime Minister would be the Head of Government; the RA would have the power to remove the PR from office; and the state would be de-partisanized.
