The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is investing around 14 million dollars in the construction of social infrastructures in Niassa province, in the interests of sustainable development..

The project, which will benefit approximately 90,000 people living in the districts of Majune, Mandimba, Mavago, Muembe and N'gauma, was presented at the 15th Ordinary Session of the Provincial Executive Council (CEP), held this Wednesday (27) in Lichinga, the provincial capital.

According to the session's spokesman, Matias Chapungo, the initiative includes the construction of five sanitary blocks, five water supply systems and 100 standpipes.

"The focus is on providing drinking water and safe sanitation to the communities, in order to improve the living conditions and health of the population, while also increasing food and nutritional security and in order to guarantee a consolidation in the sustainable development of Niassa province," Chapungo explained.

At the same meeting, it was pointed out that by 2024, the province had recorded 99 cases of human-wildlife conflict, pointing to the need for continued intervention.
