The administrator of the Cimentos da Beira company in Sofala province uses a fake Boletim da República (BR) to access company accounts, the National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC) confirmed on Tuesday.

The Administrator was appointed by the Sofala Judicial Court as part of the company's insolvency proceedings, which were decreed in October 2023.

SERNIC learned about the case of the fake BR through a complaint, days after the appointment of the company's new management. The National Press of Mozambique was notified to comment on the document. SERNIC confirmed that the BR was false.

SERNIC in the city of Beira says it will take further steps to investigate those involved and the motives behind the fake document. The Central Anti-Corruption Office is already aware of the case.

When she took office, the administrator assured the workers that their jobs were guaranteed. In the meantime, a senior employee of the company has been dismissed and compensated. The reasons are unknown.

Cimentos da Beira has not been producing cement for about a month due to a lack of raw materials. (Source: STV)
