AD vence legislativas com 32,10 % dos votos em Portugal

The Democratic Alliance (which brings together the Social Democratic Party and the CDS - Centro Democrático e Social) won the early legislative elections, with 32.7% of votes. With these elections, the coalition is further strengthened, with Luís Montenegro continuing as Prime Minister of Portugal.

The big loser of the night was the Socialist Party, which won the same number of seats (58) as Chega. Even so, André Ventura's party, which insisted on an anti-immigration discourse, got fewer votes and remains in third place, according to DW.

The rapprochement of André Ventura's party led Pedro Nuno Santos to resign from the PS leadership. Livre has risen to fifth political force, while the Left Bloc has been overtaken by the CDU. There is also a new party with parliamentary representation: Juntos Pelo Povo.

With 32.10% of the votes and 86 deputies, the Democratic Alliance won this Sunday's legislative elections. In addition to this result, AD won 0.62% (three seats) in Madeira, which in that region includes the Monarchist People's Party (PPM).

"The people want this government and they don't want another. The people want this Prime Minister and they don't want another one," he said.

"We expect a sense of state, a sense of responsibility, respect for people and a spirit of coexistence in diversity, but also of convergence and safeguarding the national interest."

Regarding the conditions for governance, the Social Democrat leader said that there is no other government solution than the one that comes from the free, democratic and convinced will of the Portuguese people.

On the Spinumviva affair, stressing that the "objective reason" that led to the elections "was the rejection of a motion of confidence" in the Assembly of the Republic.

After this election, "the motion of confidence that the people have addressed to the government today is enough for everyone to assume their respective responsibilities," Montenegro pointed out, also demanding "maturity" from the political forces.
