Access Bank sponsors Mozambican Judo Federation in 2024 Olympic qualifying competitions

Access Bank patrocina Federação Moçambicana de Judo em provas de qualificação para jogos Olímpicos de 2024

Access Bank Mozambique is one of the main sponsors of the Mozambican Judo Federation at the Almada Grand Prix and the Paris Grand Slam, qualifying events for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, France.

As part of this partnership, the Bank is supporting the tour of three Mozambican judokas to these competitions, which will take place in Portugal and France from January 27 to 29 and February 3 to 5, respectively. A good performance in these games could guarantee the qualification of the national athletes.

Kevin Loforte (66kg), Narciso Matos (73kg) and Ayton Siquir (73kg), the latter of whom is only taking part in the Paris tournament, will be the athletes coached by Edson Madeira. On Tuesday, January 24, the athletes traveled to Portugal, the country hosting the first competition.

After the competitions, the national team will complete a 10-day training camp in both European capitals, with the opportunity to interact with the world's judo giants.

"This is another opportunity to demonstrate the Bank's commitment to Mozambican sport, supporting the different disciplines, providing better conditions for athletes and raising Mozambique's name further across borders". This was said by Marco Abalroado, managing director of Access Bank Mozambique.

According to him, "the possibility of Mozambique taking part in the world's most important sporting event is the catalyst for the Bank's attention to this issue".

"We believe that we are well represented by highly dedicated athletes and we therefore hope to qualify our judokas, who will certainly give a decent performance and represent the strength and resilience of the country," said Marco Abalroado.

Edson Madeira, coach of the Mozambican judokas, thanked Access Bank for its support, saying that the Bank's support "makes all the difference", motivating them "to make an even greater effort to achieve their main objective, which is to be present at the 2024 Paris Olympics".

More than 1,000 athletes from 80 countries are expected for the Almada Grand Prix and the Paris Grand Slam. The events will each award 700 world ranking points to the winners of each category.

Access Bank Mozambique has once again reinforced its commitment to Mozambican sport, supporting the development of the different sports practiced in the country.
