Absa Bank Moçambique realiza Meia Maratona já este domingo

For the official opening of the 3rd edition of the Absa Bank Mozambique Maputo Half Marathon, a press conference was held in Maputo, which brought together the partners for the official opening, namely the Maputo City Municipality, the Maputo City Athletics Association, the Port of Maputo (MPDC), CFAO Toyota, MDR Sports, among others.

The Maputo Half Marathon, which is considered to be the biggest running competition in the country, is scheduled to take place in Maputo City on May 28th and will start at the bridge, in the Katembe - Maputo direction, at 7:00 am.

After a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, this year's Maputo Half Marathon, an initiative organized by Absa Bank Mozambique and MDR Sports, has more than 3,000 participants on a 21.097.5-kilometre course, meeting all the specifications of the International Association of Athletics Federations for road races. This initiative includes classifications for the General (men and women), Veterans (men and women and by age groups), and Paralympic tricycle (men and women).

Supporting the practice of sport is one of the priorities of Absa Bank Mozambique's citizenship plan, due to its importance in transmitting values and positive choices for life, which is why it intends to bring the best national figures in the field to the 3rd Maputo Half Marathon, as well as attracting the public to the roads and thus ensuring the competitiveness of the event.

Striving to make a difference, the organization has announced that, starting at the same time as the Half Marathon, there will also be a Family Race - a non-competitive initiative, where the main aim is to create healthy lifestyle habits and allow all lovers of the sport to take part, as well as a Special Race, an initiative dedicated to children with special needs, thus bringing the inclusion factor to the event and more than 200 participants.

The organization appealed to all participants to be aware of safety issues and reminded them that buses leave from the Maputo City Council building at 4.30am, with the last bus leaving at 6.15am.

In addition to the prize money announced, which totals MT 640,000.00, the organization has announced that this year, if the world record is broken, a Toyota car will be given away.

All participants must wear their bibs throughout the race. Race KITs will be handed out on the 26th and 27th of this month between 9am and 5pm at the Radisson Blue Hotel in Maputo.
