On Thursday, February 9, Ernst & Young (EY), in partnership with the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham), held a session on recent legislative changes to the VAT, IRPC, ICE and Customs Tariff codes, among others.
The session took place at EY's offices in Maputo and brought together representatives of organizations and companies operating in Mozambique.
The main aim of the initiative was to promote dialog and share experiences on the implementation of the legislation that came into force on January 1, 2023.
Mauro Daúd, Director of the Tax department at EY, was one of the speakers at the session and said that "this meeting allowed us to analyze, discuss and clarify the most recent and relevant legislative changes that have a great impact and bring with them challenges for companies".
Throughout the session, questions were answered about the measures that are part of the Economic Acceleration Package announced by His Excellency the President of the Republic of Mozambique.
The aim is for companies to be better informed and to be able to change their internal systems and procedures in order to fully comply with their tax obligations and also to improve their relationship with the State (Tax Authority).
"It was important for us to alert companies to the impact of these tax changes, which will allow them to quickly make the necessary internal changes, since the regulations came into force on January 1st," said Patrícia Quirino, Partner in the Tax department at EY Mozambique.
She added that "it's critical that these changes that came into force in January are implemented and there are still many doubts, a lot that remains to be clarified". "But it's better to be proactive and try to clear up any doubts, so that we can advise companies and they can implement the new measures," stressed Patrícia Quirino.
EY's purpose is to support and build a better business world, helping its clients and the business sector in Mozambique to thrive in this era of rapid change.
