Nurses threaten to paralyze activities

Enfermeiros ameaçam paralisar actividades

The Single Wage Table has already led several social classes to consider paralyzing activities until its incongruities are in line with the expectations of their respective workers. Judges, professors and doctors have expressed their displeasure with the framework given in the table. And, for the same reasons, now the nurses are revolting.

According to "Carta de Moçambique" this class of health professionals calculated last week to start a strike next Monday (14). This is also due to the fact that the Government has remained silent upon complaints from the nurses.

The National Association of Nurses of Mozambique (ANEMO) does not advance a deadline to end the strike, and it should cease upon a pronouncement from the Government favorable to their concerns.

According to the call, the strike will cover all nurses in service in public administration, assigned to public health units and institutions under the Ministry of Health (Provincial Health Services; Provincial Directorates of Health; District Services of Health, Women and Social Action; Municipal Councils of Health; Research Institute; Health training institutions; Examination Centers, Warehouse of Medicines and Medical-Surgical supplies).

During the strike, nurses will paralyze the activities of vaccination campaign; minor surgery services; Surgery/Medicine ward, Operating Room, except for ER and ICU cases; dressings; peripheral and central venous canalization, except in emergencies and urgencies; collection of blood, urine, sputum, stool samples; morgue; public health activities, tutoring and internship supervision; outpatient orthopedic treatment unit; and the National Tuberculosis Control Program.

However, the nurses guarantee that they will ensure minimum services in the following sectors: Inpatient Services, wards; Emergency Services (Emergency Room, Minor Surgery and Trauma); Adult and Pediatric Resuscitation Services; Genecology Emergency Services, Delivery Rooms and maternity wards; Emergency Operating Room.
