Seven refugees of Congolese nationality have been arrested on suspicion of illegally exploiting mineral resources in the districts of Gilé and Mocuba, Zambezia province.
Quoted by Radio Mocambique, Reginaldo Massorongo, spokesman for the provincial Migration Directorate in Zambézia, said that they were Congolese refugees who had presented legal documents to enter the country.
"From the reality we've been experiencing in terms of mining, there have been reports that Migration, because of the many foreigners who were there, went to the field with other Defense and Security Forces and even found the existence of these refugees.
Migration had to first check the authenticity of the documents they were carrying and, after contacting INAR, it turned out that they were authentic documents," he said.
